As we look back on this past year, we are amazed at the many ways your kindness has expressed itself in the lives of people who have experienced homelessness or those who have little to no access to health care. People right here in our city. Through your generous gifts of volunteer service, financial support, and faithful prayers, many lives are forever changed for the better.
At the Women’s Clinic, we were able to care for twice as many patients. We increased from 1345 medical appointments last year to 2332 so far in 2016. Women came with many medical needs and left with renewed, measurable health and hope. Some were led to an eternal faith in Christ as a result of your prayers and faithful service. One young woman had never heard who Jesus truly is, and now she’s worshiping and learning how to follow him.
At Mary’s Home, your support allowed us to double the number of women and children living in safety. We now host nine mothers and 12 children; by the end of this year there will be 12 families on a journey to break the cycle of poverty that gripped their lives.
Imagine what it must feel like to live in your car in a remote parking lot one day and move into a beautifully remodeled and furnished apartment the next; from crisis and fear to safety and security. No wonder so many moms break down, weeping, and children jump with joy when they first see their new apartment.
These ladies and their children are embraced with love, support, and hope—many for the very first time in their lives. Since they are fleeing abusive relationships, we have experienced firsthand some of their ex-husbands or boyfriends tracking them down when it is essential for these families to live in safety. For that reason it has become critically apparent that we need to provide increased security measures for these vulnerable families.
Our goal this month is to enclose the perimeter of Mary’s Home with a security fence including safety cameras and locking gates. The cost of these security measures is approximately $120,000. We need your help to make this possible for the women and children that reside at Mary’s Home. One donor has already generously committed to matching each and every one of your gifts up to $60,000, doubling your impact.
Would you prayerfully consider making a sacrificial gift that provides increased safety—a basic necessity on which the future success of the Mary’s Home program is being built?
GOOD NEWS! Praise the Lord, we were able to purchase a new 3-D imaging machine for the Women’s Clinic and it arrived on December 19. We have met a number of young women who first learned of their unplanned pregnancy at the Women’s Clinic. Some of these unplanned pregnancies result in difficult choices. Our desire is to preserve the life of these precious babies.
For a woman already panicked and worried about an unplanned pregnancy, a grainy black and white ultrasound image does little to create emotional attachment and get her to think twice about potentially aborting this precious infant. The baby has no expression. No definition. We can’t wait to use a new 3-D machine so that same young woman will see an incredible image of her child—a virtual photo of her baby—creating a real emotional attachment. Seeing a 3-D image could make all the difference between keeping the child or electing to end her pregnancy, helping her choose life and bring glory to the one who created her child.
Your one-time gift or monthly support will unlock women’s dreams of becoming mothers and fill the gap in operational support that allows the Women’s Clinic team to serve every precious woman and child as though they are the most important person in the world.
One woman left the Women’s Clinic with joyful tears of restored hope. It was the third clinic she visited, and she feels like she finally found a group of people who hear her and are able to help with her symptoms. She will begin our counseling program soon and is in awe that you, staff, and volunteers continue to pray for her.
May God’s richest blessings be yours this Christmas season. Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement. Mary’s Home and the Women’s Clinic continue serving the desperate needs of women and children because of you.
Yours in His service,
Matthew Ayers | Dream Centers Executive Director
